Stacked wood fireplace cover

I loved doing this project! Let's jump right in to how it is done

I purchased a large piece of wood underlayment at Home Depot. It is  real wood but thinner than plywood. I painted both sides black. I used some black Mineral Fusion paint because I really love the finish and the deepness of the black color.

Next, I sourced some wood rounds on Amazon. I used 3", 5" and I chopped the 7" ones with a hatchet in the yard. It split them into three triangles almost every time if I hit it in the middle of the circle on the piece. Then, this is important, I chose the bottom of the piece and dry fit all the pieces together like it was a wood stack. Keeping in mind how gravity would pull the pieces together with no gaps. This helps with the illusion.

Next, I glued all the pieces with wood glue. Then, I ran out of wood glue and finished with clear Gorilla Glue.

The final step was screwing a powerful magnet on each corner. These suckers are strong and come with a hole and screw. I was careful to make sure it screwed into a piece of wood round or triangle on the front as the screws were longer than the underlayment. That's it!
